Gripen and F-35 face-off for Czech deal at NATO Air Days

With the Czech Air Force (CzAF) looking to either replace or stick with its Saab Gripen C/D fleet in 2027, industry is positioning for a future requirement with both the Swedish company and Lockheed Martin making a significant impression at the NATO Air Days airshow, held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from September 18-19.

In addition to a full-scale replica (FSR) Gripen in the VIP area the Swedish Air Force was exhibiting a two-seat Gripen D from F17 Wing at Ronneby in the static display and a Gripen C in the flying display. A Swedish and Hungarian Air Force Gripen C pair accompanied the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight’s Saab Lansen, Draken and Viggen in formation for a short period, albeit in gloomy conditions.
