ACHIEVED IN December 2017 and announced in late January, Gulfstream has added three new city-pair speed records with its mid-size G280 jet.
The first event in early December involved a G280 flying a 2,596-nautical mile (4,808km) leg from Johannesburg to Lagos in 5 hours and 31 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.83. Two further legs were flown on the same day:
Lagos to Cape Verde covering 1,858 nautical miles (3,441km) in 3 hours and 52 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.84; then Cape Verde to San Juan, Puerto Rico, covering 3,011 nautical miles (5,576km) in 6 hours and 40 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.82.
According to Gulfstream, since the G280 entered service in November 2012 the type has set more than 60 city-pair records Pending approval by the US National Aeronautic Association, the G280’s latest records will be sent to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland for recognition as world records
