Gulfstream G650 Record-Breaking Bizjet

Rod Simpson examines Gulfstream Aerospace’s G650 and G650ER, which have broken many world records.

Gulfstream Aerospace announced its new large business jet project in March 2008. For marketing purposes, it would be the G650, but its type certificate states GVI, maintaining the lineage from the Gulfstream I (GI) of 1958.

At the time of the launch, the company’s product line-up was led by the G550 (GV), which had capacity for up to 19 passengers and could cover 6,750nm (12,501km). However, corporate users were continually requesting longer range, larger cabins and higher performance, and the G650 would o_ er all of these without the need to replace its predecessor, which still suited many customers.
