Hamburg Gateway to Northern Germany

Airports of the World last visited Hamburg ten years ago. The facilities have stood the test of time fairly well since then – but, with traffic growing, rapid major upgrades are now under way, as Tony Dixon found out.

Hamburgs two terminals have similar layouts, and are separated by the Airport Plaza.

Last year, the number of movements at Hamburg Airport (HAM) increased to 160,650 and an all-time high of 16.22m passengers used the facilities. On October 14 another record was set when 65,000 travellers passed through the doors on a single day. Newcomers such as Blue Air and TAROM have contributed to this success, while existing incumbents including easyJet, Germanwings and Ryanair have boosted the figures by opening additional routes.
