Christian Scherer, Airbus’s chief commercial officer, once said: “Aircraft deals aren’t done at airshows.” He was speaking two years ago at the Dubai Airshow, and he was probably right. Take last year’s Farnborough event, which generated firm orders for 176 aircraft for Boeing and 85 for Airbus. However, behind the scenes, things had been “pretty hectic”, according to Scherer.
