Multiple users of Russian-designed Mil Mi-24 and Mi-35-series Hind attack helicopters have been overhauling them or buying new equipment.
Russia has started to overhaul 12 of Hungary’s Mi-24Ps Hinds, which are currently non-operational. The helicopters were airlifted to the 419th Aircraft Repair Plant at St Petersburg in November 2017.
Bulgaria has locally overhauled one of its six Mi-24Vs and returned it to flight status in December, bringing the number currently operational to two, but it is uncertain whether the remainder will be overhauled. Bulgarian Hinds participated in NATO exercises with US Army helicopters in Bulgaria during the summer of 2017.
