A Boeing 747-400F overran the runway while landing at Halifax/Stanfield International in November 2018 because of late braking from the crew, a recent report by the Canadian Transportation Safety Board has found.
A combination of minor factors – including unclear NOTAM presentation, a higher approach speed than necessary, a tailwind and the drag devices stowing after touchdown – when combined with the belated braking action caused the Sky Lease Cargo-owned jumbo to leave the runway while travelling at 77kts.
N908AR (c/n 28026) came to a stop 270m (885ft) past the end after striking the approach lights and localiser antenna array.
