How ex-Walmart boss saved Air New Zealand

If there were ever to be a contest for the worst time to become an airline CEO, February 2020 could be a contender. Greg Foran, Air New Zealand’s chief executive, spoke to Thomas Haynes about his turbulent first 18 months in the job

“I’ve dealt with numerous crises in my career, but I have never been part of an organisation where effectively your entire revenue base disappears in a matter of weeks and for a substantial period,” Foran revealed to Key.Aero, referring to the challenge which faced him upon his arrival at Air New Zealand in February 2020. “It quickly became a matter of survival for the airline, and we acted swiftly and decisively to get our business in the best possible shape to get through.”
