From the outset, NATO has been clear that it will not directly involve itself with the war in Ukraine. Interventions such as no-fly zones or putting troops on the ground have been ruled out over fears that engaging directly with Russian forces would escalate the situation beyond the borders of Ukraine.
Despite this, the military alliance has continued to strengthen its presence in the region by positioning assets and personnel within neighbouring countries. As a result, the skies of bordering nations have been busy with NATO ISR, combat and tanker aircraft.
