Hughes XF-11 takes flight in MSFS

Aircraft developer Flying Fries has announced the Hughes XF-11 is now available for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS).

In 1943, the US Air Force placed an order with Hughes Aircraft Company for 100 military reconnaissance aircraft with an ambitious flight envelope including high altitude, cruise speed and range. Three years later, the prototype of the XF-11 was born, sporting 6,000 horsepower provided by two Pratt & Whitney 28-cylinder radial Wasp Major engines. It was, however, destroyed during its maiden flight, prematurely ending the story of the XF-11.

Flying Fries package for MSFS is a highly detailed rendition of the XF-11 prototype, based on old drawings, schematics and low-quality photos. The aircraft sports a high-quality 3D model with 4K textures, eight paint schemes and flight dynamics designed using Asobo's Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model.

It also features complex systems simulation, including the electrical system with functioning circuit breakers, the fuel system with multiple tanks and pumps, a custom pressurisation module and an era-correct autopilot.

Other features include several cockpit positions: the pilot and navigator station and the photographer's seat in the nose section. It also comes with custom interior lighting and ground equipment such as chocks, engine plugs and a ground power unit. The aircraft also includes a custom sound set, visual effects such as smoke on engine start, fuel leaks, and interactive in-game checklists.

Optional random failures can be triggered during a flight, and a clipboard allows you to set options such as fuel/payload or check failures.

The period cockpit comes with an optional Garmin GNS 530.
