Indian Air Force stages Exercise Tarang Shakti

The first phase at Air Force Station Sulur in Tamil Nadu in southern India ran from August 6 to August 14, 2024. A second phase, at Air Force Station Jodphur, will take place from August 29 to September 6, 2024.

The Royal Air Force detachment returning from Exercise Pitch Black in Australia, comprising six Typhoons from XI(Fighter) Squadron at RAF Coningsby along with two Voyagers and an Atlas from the RAF Air Mobility Force at RAF Brize Norton, was involved in the first phase.

Other European assets returning home from Pitch Black also participated in Tarang Shakti phase one – French Air and Space Force Dassault Rafales, and German Air Force and Spanish Air Force Eurofighter EF2000s. A Royal Air Force statement said: “Exercise Tarang Shakti is designed to give the RAF and the other European counties the opportunity to fly with the Indian Air Force [IAF] in a complex air environment to deliver a variety of air missions. The exercise also demonstrates the growing relationship between the RAF and the IAF and follows the IAF’s participation last year on the RAF-led exercise Cobra Warrior.”
