The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is deploying hand-launched Indiza unmanned aerial vehicles to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where they will serve with the United Nations peacekeeping mission there. The Indiza, which has a foldable 6ft (2m) wingspan, has been locally developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. The system’s range is up to six miles (10km) and its payload comprises day or night cameras.
The Indiza has been tested by the SANDF on border safeguarding missions and in March took part in an exercise to prepare soldiers for the DRC deployment.
