The RAF is in the process of bidding a fond farewell to two very iconic components of its airlift organisation this June. After nearly 57 years of UK military service, the venerable C-130 Hercules fleet is to be completely withdrawn from operational service on June 30, while No 47 Squadron – a steadfast operator of the tactical transport since 1968 – was formally stood down on June 8.
