Inside SFO's new $2.4bn Harvey Milk Terminal 1

San Francisco International Airport’s Harvey Milk Terminal 1 has hit a new milestone with the launch of its latest phase as Kirstie Pickering report

When San Francisco International Airport (SFO) opened the first phase of its Harvey Milk Terminal 1 (HMT1) back in July 2019, it strived to “set a new standard for the airport experience, making air travel less stressful, more entertaining and more engaging than ever before.” With COVID-19 causing only minor delays to construction work, the gateway has remained on track, with its latest stage opening in May 2021.

Ivar C Satero, airport director at SFO, announced: “We are excited to complete the latest phase of Harvey Milk Terminal 1, on schedule and in time for this summer travel season. With this newest addition, we’re taking the airport experience at SFO to a whole new level, using this facility to share the story of Harvey Milk to an even broader audience of global travellers.”
