Interview: RwandAir’s CEO breaking the mould

In the October 2023 Speaking to Gordon Smith moments after being appointed as the new chair of IATA’s Board of Governors, RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo discusses the challenges and opportunities of the post-pandemic era

GS: How does it feel to be the new IATA chair?

YM: It’s an honour for me to be the first female chair. Yes, it’s a bit overwhelming but it is great for female representation, and I hope that this is the beginning of a new phase for the aviation sector. The ‘25by2025’ [IATA campaign] is a good first step, but given that we’re coming from so far behind, a lot more needs to be done.
