Is this an alternative to Microsoft Flight Simulator?

I think the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator (MFS) has in some ways cast a shadow over the other platforms in this genre, simply because the graphics in this simulator made such a leap forward, it took everybody by surprise. This didn’t stop other vendors from continuing their development as they collectively have massive user bases. In fact, many of those users have invested their time and considerable amounts of money in their hobby, so were unlikely to suddenly jump ship. One such product that immediately springs to mind is, of course, X-Plane, yet it was not alone.
