Is Iran's 33-year search for an advanced jet trainer finally over?

The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force has spent the past 33 years searching for an advanced jet trainer. Is it now on the cusp of a breakthrough? Babak Taghvaee reports

The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) has been in search of an advanced jet trainer to replace its 15 Northrop F-5B Freedom Fighters and 18 Chengdu FT-7N Air Guards for 33 years. The force currently believes that its long-awaited solution is the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Corporation (HESA) Yasin Advanced Pilot Training Jet (Yasin APT).
