The arrest of leading Islamic terrorist, Bassem Saadi, by Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Jenin on August 1 led to fighting between Israel and the militant group of jihadis in Gaza.
After arresting Saadi, thought to be a commander in the so-called Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), Israel announced a range of security measures, with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) saying it had indications of an ‘imminent’ attack on the border with Gaza, putting the area on lockdown for several days.
