ITA Airways introduces Airbus A220 into service

The Italian carrier has initially put a pair of Airbus A220s into fare-paying service – with more jets to follow soon…

The Airbus A220 has entered into revenue service with ITA Airways, as the 0910hrs Rome/Fiumicino to Genoa link – Flight AZ 1383 – became the first to see the type yesterday (October 16).

At present, the airline is using a pair of A220-300s, EI-HHI (c/n 55168) and EI-HHJ (c/n 55176) – the former pictured – which both sport ITA’s ‘Born To Be Sustainable’ special livery; this look can also be seen on one of its A350-900 widebody jets, EI-IFD (c/n 338).

According to the Italian-based carrier, a further two A220s are set to enter service “in the upcoming weeks” at the time of writing.

The narrowbody type will serve a swathe of short-haul connections from both Rome/Fiumicino and Milan/Linate. These comprise both domestic and wider European destinations, including Naples and Turin, as well as Geneva, Zürich and Munich.
