Back to Basics - Series 2 Lesson 6

An Italian navigation exercise

This issue we complete the final touches of our flight preparations and after checking our plans are within safe parameters, we depart on our Italian navigation exercise…

Weight and balance

Last issue we checked our weather, completed our flight plan and made all our fuel calculations to ensure there were no surprises in store. We then finished off taking into consideration one final thing before starting our engine – to ensure our weight and balance would be within acceptable limits for the entire flight, even as we consumed fuel. This can sometimes seem like a tedious process but take heart that commercial pilots do this every time they fly – so it is a principal you need to be aware of, especially if you fly larger aircraft.
