What with the dreadful pandemic and family commitments, it’s been a few years since I visited the holiday island of Majorca. If you’ve never been there, it’s well worth a visit. It’s a beautiful location and always a big favourite with British travellers, mainly because of its temperate climate that provides dawn to dusk sunshine for many months of the year. However, it's not a ‘one trick pony’ either as there are many cultural places to visit beyond the main beach resorts. In fact, you could spend a whole week exploring the sights and sounds of the capital Palma, famous for its beautiful Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca, right next to the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the imposing Castell de Bellver that overlooks the city.
In case you're wondering, Majorca is the Anglicised version of the Spanish spelling of Mallorca but they are in reality the same place. It’s the largest of the Balearic Islands, situated in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of mainland Spain approximately 175 miles east of Valencia and 125 miles south-east of Barcelona.
