KLM: Future in Focus

To mark the airline’s centenary, KLM CEO Pieter Elbers visited London to offer his assessment of the carrier’s positioning within the UK market and to discuss global trends, as Bernie Baldwin reports.

“We’re the only airline in the world celebrating 100 years, having always operated under its original name.” This slightly cheeky, but still respectful, quip came from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ president and CEO, Pieter Elbers, as he began his London press briefing to discuss the carrier’s centenary. Let’s be honest, when you’re in the hometown of another airline celebrating 100 years of operations, albeit not always with the same brand, it’s fun to be a little tongue-in-cheek.
