Kuala Lumpur airport chooses Rohde & Schwarz as auxiliary ATC radio

Rohde & Schwarz, together with a local aviation company, has won a contract by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to provide Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with auxiliary radios to maintain uninterrupted Air to Ground VHF Communication System. For this, CAAM chose the most innovative air traffic control (ATC) radio available, the R&S Series5200, part of CERTIUM, an advanced communications suite for ATC.

R&S Series5200 represents the next generation of VHF and UHF radios for ATC communications, increasing system security with a new security-by-design architecture. This makes the radio future-proof and subsequent system expansions will not require additional hardware thanks to the software defined radio concept.

“This contract represents a clear commitment by CAAM to strengthen Operational Continuity at Kuala Lumpur International Airport,” Marius Münstermann, Vice President Market Segment ATC at Rohde & Schwarz, explains. “The R&S Series5200 radio provides voice and data communications with the uncompromised quality you would expect from a Rohde & Schwarz radio and can also serve CAAM as a perfect solution during future upgrade programs.”

The R&S Series5200 ATC radio from Rohde & Schwarz is ready for next-generation network architectures and features high availability due to redundant network interfaces and network separation right to the core of the radio. It supports the latest ED-137C standard with up to 10 VoIP sessions for voice and four VoIP sessions for a recorder, making it interoperable with any (VoIP) voice communications system. R&S Series5200 radios are designed in Germany and produced at Rohde & Schwarz factories in Europe, as well as Malaysia, according to highest quality standards.
