LONG-AWAITED IOT&E KICKS-OFF

F-35B BuNo 169294 operated by VMFA-121 lands at MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, on November 27, 2018. The F-35B’s arrival marked the first time the Lightning II had visited the Okinawa air station. VMFA-121 is normally based at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.

THE F-35 REACHED a major program milestone with the formal start of Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) in early December. Under the oversight of the independent Director of Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E), the Joint Strike Fighter Operational Test Team (JOTT) will conduct the evaluation with support from the program’s international partners.
