The Lightning Preservation Group has announced its first event in three years – and it has sold out in less than 24 hours
The popularity of that Cold War classic, the English Electric Lightning, shows no sign of waning!
After almost three years, the Lightning Preservation Group (LPG) at Bruntingthorpe has announced its first post-pandemic event. The Twilight Event 2022 will be held at the Leicestershire base on Saturday November 12, with entry from 1400hrs.
However, such is the popularity of the event – and the hunger among enthusiasts for some seriously noisy jet action – that tickets have been snapped up in their entirety.
Because the LPG no longer has access to the runway at Bruntingthorpe, the traditional fast taxi runs are not currently possible – but the ever-resilient LPG team has crafted a new event that will enable lucky ticket-holders to get up close to its Lightnings.
They plan to run one of the aircraft in reheat: “The Lightning will be positioned on the pan in front of the Q-Shed with our guests at a safe but close enough distance to feel the rumble, smell the avpin and see the mighty Avon’s in full reheat”.
Hopefully we will see many more of these type of events in the months and years to come.
