The latest Local Legends aircraft to take off in Microsoft Flight Simulator is the Saab B 17A.
The Saab B 17 began life as a top-secret venture by the Swedish company ASJA and the Douglas Aircraft Company, dubbed L-10. Saab took over the project in 1939 and performed a successful test flight the following year. The Swedish Air Force ordered two variants, a reconnaissance version designated S 17 and the B 17 diver bomber.
The Saab B 17A is one of the more distinctive aircraft of the World War Two era. It features an extended 'greenhouse' canopy, a tandem two-seat cockpit and large main landing gear doors, which act as air brakes during dive bomb runs. The type was even used as a test vehicle for early ejection seats.
Designed by iniBuilds, the B 17A for Microsoft Flight Simulator sports an authentic exterior with seven high-definition PBR (Physically Based Rendering) liveries and a detailed model of the engine and propeller.
Various animations include flight control surfaces, undercarriage, cowl flaps, canopy and start-up smoke, as well as a cockpit with accurate period instruments. It is available in the in-sim Marketplace for $14.99.
