London City achieves accreditation for new health measures

Alongside the introduction of stringent Covid-19 safety regulations, the airport also plans to expand its testing facility

London City Airport has been approved as Covid-19 secure by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Public Health England (PHE), in line with ‘CART Take-Off’ regulations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Officials from both bodies conducted a two-day assessment, which monitored the passenger journey. Health measures, such as hygiene initiatives, support services and social distancing, were also evaluated.

“We understand that some passengers may be apprehensive about travelling, but they should be assured that we are not only doing everything we can to not only keep them safe, but to make the London City experience as simple and straightforward as possible,” said Alison Fitzgerald, CEO of London City Airport.

“Being one of the first UK airports to achieve this globally recognised health accreditation, which is endorsed by our regulator and Public Health England, will hopefully give people the confidence to book their travel with LCY for a much-deserved break this summer.”

As demand for travel is expected to increase over the coming months, the assessment also determined the airport’s preparedness for the growth in passenger numbers.

To facilitate a rise in customers, the gateway plans to expand its onsite testing centre to offer all relevant tests for international travel.

Flights to Portugal from the London base begin today.

Stansted, East Midlands and Heathrow have also been awarded the accreditation.
