The new committee is set to discuss any concerns the local community may have to maintain trust and transparency
London Southend Airport has today (July 22) announced its new independent community noise forum.
Through the organisation, the hub plans to appoint a new chair of the committee to consult with local residents at board meetings.
The LSACNF is set to be established to help maintain a pathway for the surrounding communities to engage with the airport – which the operator believes will increase trust, transparency and clarity regarding noise issues.
London Southend hopes that by creating this forum, solutions can be discussed, and progress can be made to settle any outstanding queries.
“The airport delivers clear social and economic benefits to our communities, but we are well aware that its operation also causes concern to some of our neighbours,” said Glyn Jones, CEO of London Southend Airport. “We are keen to address this to the greatest extent possible. Whilst aircraft will make noise, we hope the LSACNF can work with us to identify opportunities and solutions.”
The section 106 agreement – which focusses on the impact of development – outlines an array of planning conditions which were agreed when the hub’s runway was extended, which measures performance to ensure the conditions of the act are followed.
This document is important for highlighting noise targets including the night-time operations quota. Whilst there has been a drop in complaints from local residents, the airport has decided to launch the new forum to try and solve further problems if they arise.
The meetings are expected to be led by the chair of the committee, who will then go on to discuss the agenda to seek any improvements, identify positive outcomes and discuss areas of concern.
