Mali’s Air Force, the Force Aérienne de la République du Mali has taken delivery of four Embraer Super Tucanos from a June 2015 order. The aircraft (PTZTN, PT-ZTI, PT-ZTJ and PT-ZTF) arrived at Air Base 101 in Bamako on July 10 after a stop in Recife, Brazil having left the factory on July 7. The quartet received serials TZ-01C, TZ-02C, TZ-03C and TZ-04C and will be assigned to the Force Aérienne de la République du Mali’s Escadrille de Chasse.
Six Super Tucanos were originally ordered, but apparently two were removed from the contract to save money. The ffirst two were seen undergoing test fflights in November and December 2016 at Bacacheri Airport in south-eastern Brazil, where they were fitted with cockpit armour. However, when the aircraft were delivered the armour had been removed, possibly to reduce weight on the delivery fflight. Embraer’s contract with Mali includes logistic support and training - ten pilots and 17 technicians have been trained on the new aircraft. Guy Martin
