THE FIRST phase of Manchester Airport’s £1bn transformation programme has been opened to the public. The first pier and a new multi-storey car park opened on April 1, with hundreds of passengers using the new facilities during the first day. The 709ft (216m) long pier provides extensive panoramic views across the airfield and will be used by airlines currently flying out of the airport’s terminal 2. On the first day it served travellers flying with TUI Airways to Funchal, Madeira and Naples, Italy.
