This latest product published by Aerosoft was developed by Maps2XPlane in collaboration with Albert Ràfols, a partnership I must admit I’m not familiar with. I only mention that here because after a cursory look I’m convinced we’re going to see a lot more from them.
The product is based on an archipelago of 115 islands, located on the edge of the Somali Sea within the Indian Ocean, which I’m sure most of you will recognise as the Republic of Seychelles. I was surprised to learn it was uninhabited until the 16th century when the first European settlers arrived. In 1756 the French took control after a Stone of Possession was laid by Captain Nicholas Morphey.
He named the islands after Jean Moreau de Séchelles, Louis XV’s Minister of Finance. Like many other island nations, the territory was contested by France and Britain until the late 19th century, when it finally came under total British control. It’s now a fully independent republic, since proclaiming independence from Britain in 1976. The capital and largest city Victoria is located on Mahe - the largest island.
