At 4.56pm on September 7 1940, London’s air raid sirens signalled the start of a nine-month bombing offensive by the Luftwaffe. Including one lady’s recollections from the time, Key.Aero looks back at a hugely destructive campaign – for both sides 

Thousands would perish, more would be seriously injured. It was a campaign that would take the lives of so many, and yet would seem to accomplish so little for the Axis forces. Allied victory would come, but at a high civilian cost.
