Ground handling specialist Menzies has announced plans to acquire 51% of Interexpresso Costa Rica Corporation, an aviation service provider operating in Central America
The acquisition will see the Scottish firm focussing on developing Interexpresso’s core cargo and security offerings, with the potential to expand into additional air cargo and ground handling services. Interexpresso is based in San Jose, Costa Rica, with operations in Guatemala and El Salvador, adding three new countries to Menzies’ portfolio.
Philipp Joeinig, Menzies chairman and CEO, said: “I am pleased to announce our expansion in the Central American region. We have found a knowledgeable partner in Interexpresso and, working together, we will be able to open doors in new, attractive, higher margin and emerging markets in the region.”
Menzies has also announced new business contracts with Virgin Australia. From mid-October the company will provide ground services at Darwin, Cairns and Queenstown as well as providing air cargo services at Darwin.
These new services, combined with recent contract renewals at Sydney, Melbourne, Kargoorlie, Perth, Brisbane, Cairns and Gold Coast airports, will see Menzies handle more than 8,000 flights and 6,500 tonnes of cargo per annum for the Australian carrier
