MIA signs sister company contract with Asuncion International

The new agreement enables both sites to assist each other with airport operations

Miami-Dade Aviation and the Civil Aviation Authority of Paraguay have recently signed a sister airports agreement between MIA and Asuncion Silvio Pettirossi International, creating a partnership that allows both sites to provide passenger and cargo support to one another.

The new arrangement allows the two hubs to exchange information regarding airport operations, planned infrastructure developments, air service advances and marketing research.

“We are extremely proud to now share a sister airport relationship with the Asunción Airport, the international gateway of Paraguay,” said Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County mayor. “As the gateway of the Americas, we welcome partnerships like this one that help us strengthen bonds with our neighbours.”

Javier Souto, county commissioner and vice chairman of the Miami-Dade tourism and the ports committee, added that the new relationship marks “an important step forward to increase trade, business, tourism and cultural relations” between the two regions.

A contract was established after members of both governments and private sector leaders met to outline a draft for the new deliberations. Both plans were approved by the Board of County Commissioners in October 2020.

Following this, Eastern Airlines began a twice-weekly service between Asuncion and MIA in January of this year.
