Mirage 2000D - on exchange with the French Air and Space Force

RAF Tornado GR4 Weapon Systems Officer (WSO) Flt Lt Alex Lock is currently on an exchange tour with the French Air and Space Force’s Escadron de Chasse 3/3 ‘Ardennes’, which operates the Dassault Mirage 2000D from Nancy-Ochey Air Base in eastern France. Flt Lt Lock put himself forward for this posting as a Navigateur Officier Système d'Armes (NOSA), which is the French equivalent of a WSO.

As well as having to integrate into another air force and operate the systems of a different aircraft type, he had the added challenge of learning French.

This interview with Flt Lt Lock took place last summer. The ‘Home of Muderie’ on the wall behind him refers to the fact that the Mirage 2000D is a fighter-bomber or colloquially a ‘mud-mover’ and so is stating that EC 3/3 are experts in bombing.
