The ‘Mossie’ mail to Moscow

When Winston Churchill met Stalin in Moscow during October 1944, he needed to be kept in touch with the progress of the war. The answer was Operation ‘Frugal’, mounted by the PR Mosquitos of No 544 Squadron

A No 544 Squadron Mosquito PRXVI that was involved in Operation ‘Frugal’. The black-and-white stripes, unlike those applied for Operation ‘Overlord’ in June 1944, do not appear under the wings as they would have stood out too much at altitude.
