’Mossie’ reunited with Merlins

The thrilling sight of Tony Agar’s Mosquito NFII, HJ711, coming together again in the main hangar at East Kirkby on 28 June. ALAN MARKHAM

Reassembly of Tony Agar’s de Havilland Mosquito NFII, HJ711, is forging ahead at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby, following its move from the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington in July 2017. The port Rolls-Royce Merlin 25 — the correct mark for the NFII — has been fitted, with the starboard unit due to be installed by mid-July.

Engine testing should be under way by the early autumn, and taxi runs are scheduled for the 2019 season. The machine will be the first ‘live’ Mosquito in the UK since the tragic loss of the British Aerospace-operated TIII, RR299/G-ASKH, at Barton in July 1996.
