Museum to mark Vulcan anniversary this weekend

Newark Air Museum in Nottinghamshire is hosting a special weekend to salute one of its most popular exhibits

On Saturday and Sunday September 16-17, staff at the attraction will stage several events to mark the 60th anniversary of Avro Vulcan XM594 entering RAF service.

The cockpit of the mighty V-bomber will be open for visits – the museum stresses that free cockpit access to the Vulcan will be granted to those people on the Reserve List for a previous event that took place in February 2023. Participants with a timed ticket arrival time for going on board will be hosted by several former Vulcan personnel.

Throughout the weekend various Vulcan-related displays are being hosted around the museum site and in the display hangars. As well as an ‘aeroboot’ aviation sale taking place on the Saturday, a series of talks by ex-Vulcan aircrew will be held throughout the weekend in the Dambusters Hut. Various former Vulcan air and groundcrew will be on hand to host walk-round tours of XM594.

A selection of other museum aircraft and cockpits will be opening for viewing, and as is normal a small additional fee/donation is charged for access to these exhibits. The event is open to the public and normal museum admission rates apply. With thanks to Howard Heeley
