Night Moves: Inside East Midlands’ cargo ops

As evening unfolds, many airports are winding down for the day. It’s a different story at East Midlands, though, as this is the time that the airport becomes a hive of cargo activity. Martyn Cartledge and Spencer Bennett report on this nightly choreography of cargo and freighters

East Midlands Airport (EMA/EGNX) has accessibility on its side; Nottingham, Derby and Leicester are all within a 20-mile radius and, as it sits directly next to the M1 Motorway, it is linked to an excellent onward road network. This puts it within a four-hour truck journey of 90% of the population of England and Wales.
