The St Maarten of the Mediterranean

The Greek island of Skiathos will mean different things to different people. Historians will know of the location for the strategic role it played in the ancient Persian/Spartan wars, movie buffs will know it as the filming location of the 2008 hit musical Mamma Mia! and aviation folk will most likely have heard of its airport being referred to as the ‘St Maarten of the Mediterranean’.
