Orders bonanza

The trend for singleaisle aircraft to dominate new commercial airliner sales continued at recent Farnborough Airshow, where the lion’s share of the announcements for new aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing involved narrowbodies rather than twin-aisle widebodies. Airbus announced 79 widebody orders during the show, comprising 44 A330s and 35 A350s, with the remaining 304 orders being for the A320 and A220 families. Boeing announced 108 widebody orders, including a batch of widebody freighters and repeat orders for both 777-300ERs and 787s, but this igure paled against the orders and commitments for up to 578 737 MAX family aircraft. There is a deeper look at the orders picture in the Back Pages section on p96.
