The aircraft – serial PNP-252 – was attempting to land at the airport at approximately 1140hrs (local time), before a believed technical problem forced the onboard crew members to conduct an emergency landing roughly 500ft (150m) short of the runway. During the crash, the U206G’s nosewheel collapsed as it ran over rough ground in a grassy area, causing it to flip over and come to an inverted rest with the outer section of one wing broken away.

Both crew members, PNP Commander Felipe Elguera Carbajal (pilot) and PNP Lieutenant Franck Castro Cuba (co-pilot), were both injured during the incident and subsequently evacuated in a SAMU ambulance to the Regional Hospital of Pucallpa. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair during the crash.
