IN PICTURES: VMFA-314 'Black Knights' F-35Cs at NAS Fallon

During May 2021, the ‘Black Knights’ joined the other three fighter/attack squadrons of CVW-9, the ‘Tophatters’ of VFA-14, the ‘Black Aces’ of VFA-41 and the ‘Vigilantes’ of VFA-151 for their Strike Fighter Advanced Readiness Program (SFARP) deployment to NAS Fallon in Nevada. Jim Dunn and Nate leong joined the unit.
F-35C 169704/’311’ is seen returning to Fallon on April 26, 2021, after completing a sortie with F-35C 168843/‘200’, one of three F-35Cs assigned to NAWDC. Aircraft from various squadrons will often be deployed to Fallon to support NAWDC operations during air wing work-ups and Top Gun classes. During this period VFA-147 was also working up with their F-35Cs. Jim Dunn

Leading this four-ship back from a SFARP mission on June 2, 2021, is F-35C 169633/’300’, the CAG aircraft for ‘Black Knights’. Also in the formation are 169703/’310’, 169633/’303’ and 169788/’312’. This was one of the final sorties of this SFARP deployment, with CVW-9 set to return to Fallon in September 2021 for their full work-up prior to joining the USS Abraham Lincoln. Jim Dunn
