"A pilot's aeroplane": BEA captain on flying the VC10

Captain R E Gillman, a senior BEA captain and senior flight training captain on its Vanguard fleet provides his assessment of flying the Vickers VC10 during its airworthiness handling trials in an article originally published in 1964

One’s first impression on entering the flight deck of the VC10 is that it is spacious, well laid out, and generously provided with window area. For a modern jet, pressurized to a high differential, the all-round view for the pilot is excellent, and additional ports are provided in the roof so that one’s intended flightpath during a turn may also be scanned.
