The Hurricane Heritage-owned Hawker Hurricane I, R4118/ G-HUPW, was moved from Old Warden to Duxford on 7 March. A crack in the cylinder block of R4118’s Rolls-Royce Merlin III was discovered towards the end of August 2017, and the unit is under repair with Maurice Hammond of Eye Tech Engineering at Eye, Suffolk. Other work to get the Battle of Britain veteran flying again will be undertaken by the Aircraft Restoration Company at Duxford, after which the fighter will be based in one of Duxford’s historic hangars. Even though R4118 has left Old Warden after a two-year residence, it is expected to make regular appearances at Shuttleworth shows.
