Saab and FMV sign helicopter support agreement

Saab has signed an agreement with Sweden’s Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the provision of support to the 20-strong Helikopter 15 fleet, in a deal worth an initial SEK 550m ($66.2m).

According to a June 2 statement from Saab the agreement is valid from January 1, 2022, to 31 December 31, 2026, with additional option years up to December 31, 2030, which if taken up would bring the agreement value to approximately SEK 1.1bn.

The FMV stated that Helikopter 15, which is based on the AW109, is used as the Swedish Armed Forces’ light rotary platform and primarily intended for training purposes. The agreement with Saab includes management, planning and administration support, as well as engine maintenance and logistics services.

In operation with the Swedish Armed Forces for around 18 years, the Helikopter 15 fleet has been exclusively supported by Saab since 2012. The fleet operates from two bases in Sweden: Linköping and Ronneby.

The main base for maintenance, inspections and repairs is at Malmen in Linköping, which is where the majority of Saab’s resources for helicopter maintenance are located.
