Although it isn’t immediately obvious today, San Bernardino International Airport (SBD), 60 miles east of Los Angeles, started life as an air force base. Housing training facilities for World War Two fighter pilots and later maintenance for US Air Force jet engines, it was once a powerhouse for America’s armed forces.
