Singapore’s Upgraded Apaches

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has started upgrading its fleet of AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopters. According to the Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). The upgrade involves equipping the AH- 64D with a Helicopter Integrated Electronic Warfare System to enhance survivability and SATCOM for more robust communications.

The upgrade package is similar to the configuration of the Israel Defence Force AH-64D-I Saraf, which features two SATCOM antennas on the outer wings, new chaff and flare dispensers on the trailing wing edges and the tail boom.

MINDEF has not confirmed which self-protection system is included in the Apache upgrade but the system involved could be based on the Elbit Systems’ Passive Airborne Warning System or the Elisra Seraph self protection system. Chen Chuanren
