SmartLynx set to add Boeing 737 MAX 8's from April

In a bold move, Riga-headquarted SmartLynx Airlines has inked a deal with SMBC Aviation Capital for a pair of leased Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

According to the carrier, the agreement is the start of a successful partnership between the parties.

While the exact identity of both airframes remains unclear at this time, they are scheduled for an April induction into SmartLynx’s current all-Airbus fleet. In a bid for a smooth introduction, the Latvian company has entered into a partnership with Boeing for assistance with entry-into-service.

Meanwhile, SmartLynx – a family member of Avia Solutions Group – also hinted that “further type additions” of the Renton-built aircraft are planned for later this summer. Already, a recruitment campaign has commenced in an effort to source crew trained on the type.
