SNOOPY’S OWN AIRPORT

Charles M Schulz Sonoma County Airport is one of several smaller facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area offering an alternative to the hustle and bustle of its larger neighbours. Sebastian Schmitz reports.

The sprawling San Francisco Bay Area is blessed with a plethora of commercial airports. San Francisco and Oakland are both wellknown facilities with growing overseas connections, while San José is a short drive down Highway 101. Away from the larger hubs are several smaller airports, providing a vital service to their local communities. One such example is Charles M Schulz Sonoma County Airport (IATA code: STS), located near of Santa Rosa, just over 60 miles (97km) north of San Francisco in the heart of Sonoma County’s wine country.
